Target has announced it will follow the example of Kmart and Wal-Mart in taking a more active role to prevent minors from purchasing games rated for older age groups. According to a Detroit Free Press report, the retailer changed its position after initially stating it put the responsibility for such purchases in the hands of parents.
Kmart announced yesterday that starting October 15, its checkout scanners will prompt cashiers to ask for a photo ID for purchases of games rated by the ESRB as "mature." Neither Target nor Wal-Mart has announced when the new policy will take hold.
