Sumo Digital: XB1X Eats for Breakfast 15K Props, It’s Going To Be Badass Once Games Are Optimized for It-November 2024
Nov 26, 2024 11:41 AM

UK studio Sumo Digital, known mainly for games like Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed and LittleBigPlanet 3, is now in the final phase of developing Crackdown 3 for Microsoft (though they're also working on Dead Island 2, a multiplatform project, with Deep Silver).

A couple weeks ago, Sumo Digital's Design Director Gareth Wilson praised the Xbox One X for its power. Talking to the Official Xbox Magazine (OXM) UK in August's #137 issue, he doubled down on his previous statement, mentioning that there's a "night and day difference" between Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro having worked with both.

We've got something like 15K simultaneous props moving around in our game [Crackdown 3]. Now the Xbox One X just eats them for breakfast.

You can just go and go and go with it. Once we start making games that are optimized for that platform, it's going to be badass. I don't mind saying that it's significantly more powerful than the PlayStation 4 Pro, and we've worked with PS4 Pro. It's way more powerful. It's a night and day difference.

Crackdown 3 has been confirmed to be out on November 7th on Windows 10 PC and Xbox One; an Xbox Play Anywhere title (meaning full cross-buy and cross-play between the platforms), it will run at native 4K and 30 frames per second on the upcoming Xbox One X console, which is due in stores on the very same day.

Needless to say, Crackdown 3 will be considered as the Xbox One X launch title and weighed as such. While Sumo Digital is working on the campaign, everyone's eager to check out the multiplayer mode (developed by Ruffian Games and Reagent Games) after the lofty promises on real-time cloud powered destruction. A little more info on this part of the game was provided by Amazon's listing of Crackdown 3.

In related Sumo Digital news, the studio announced today the acquisition of digital art and design team Atomhawk.
