Sumo Digital Acquires EVE Valkyrie’s CCP Games Newcastle Studio
Sumo Digital Acquires EVE Valkyrie’s CCP Games Newcastle Studio-October 2024
Oct 16, 2024 4:44 AM

UK developer Sumo Digital announced via press release today its acquisition of CCP Games Newcastle, the studio behind EVE Valkyrie.

Thirty-four staff members have now transferred over to Sumo Digital, with Owen O'Brien as Studio Director. This is the third UK based studio owned by Sumo Digital alongside Sheffield and Nottingham, and they also have another studio in Pune, India. Overall, the software house employs over 500 developers across all studios now and they are hiring in all of them - if interested, you may check the current vacancies over here.

Paul Porter, Managing Director of Sumo Digital said:

As we continue to expand this was a great opportunity to bring an experienced, talented and tight-knit team on board.

Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, CEO of CCP Games, added:

Sumo Digital is a great home for the team in Newcastle. As we say goodbye to our former colleagues we know that they will do great things there, and we can’t wait to see what they do next.

CCP Games had tried to open up EVE Valkyrie to non-VR players with the Warzone update, but evidently, it wasn't enough.

As for Sumo, they are currently making Dead Island 2 with Deep Silver as a publisher as well as working on Crackdown 3's campaign mode. They clearly have far more cooking in the oven, though, and 2018 may well be the year we learn about some of their projects. Stay tuned.
