One full week before Stranger Things finally comes back for Season 4, Netflix has revealed episode counts and launch dates for the two volumes it will be broken out into. Even better, Netflix has also released almost the first full nine minutes of the season premiere--which you can watch below.
The first volume is the majority of the next season, with seven of the nine upcoming episodes releasing on May 27. The remaining two episodes will be released on July 1 as Volume 2 of the season.
As co-creator Ross Duffer and director Shawn Levy confirmed earlier this week, although this is a relatively shorter season for the series, Season 4's episodes will generally run a little longer. According to Netflix's Tudum site, all nine episodes together total "roughly 13 hours," with the final two clocking in at nearly four hours long. From Netflix: "For the real geeks out there, Episode 407 is 1 hour, 38 minutes; Episode 408 is around 1 hour, 25 minutes; and 409 is almost two and a half hours." According to Variety, most of the oher episodes will run at 75 minutes.
Netflix is reportedly spending $30 million per episode for Stranger Things Season 4, making it one of the most expensive TV show productions in history. It's no surprise that Netflix is now considering offering an ad-based subscription tier to the Netflix lineup to help grow subscribers and revenue.
