Interplay announced the release of its latest title, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.
If that sounds familiar that's probably because the space battle game/interstellar flight sim was originally produced on the CD-ROM format for PCs last year. Now Starfleet is being released on DVD, the second Interplay title to be released on that format.
"Star Trek: Starfleet Academy takes full advantage of DVD technology with over 220 minutes of movie-quality MPEG-2 video," said game producer Rusty Buchert. William "Captain Kirk" Shatner, Walter "Chekov" Koenig, and George "Sulu" Takei all appear in the game's MPEG sequences.
The goal of the game is to navigate successfully through more than 20 missions and graduate as a Starfleet officer. Now all those Trekkies with the Starfleet Academy stickers in their car windows have something to back up their claims.
