Star Citizen is the most crowdfunded project of any kind in history and it is showing no signs of slowing down. The campaign has now reached $25 million, up more than $1 million in one week.

　　What's more, October 2013 was Star Citizen's single-biggest month for crowdfunding support yet, an achievement that creator Chris Roberts called "truly astounding."

　　At press time, the Star Citizen campaign has attracted $25,201,968 from 286,858 backers.

　　With the $25 million milestone unlocked, Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium Games can build a "stronger" infrastructure for the game's upcoming alpha test, the developer said.

　　More specifically, this means Cloud Imperium Games will be able to increase the number of remaining alpha slots (50,000 more) and spin up remote servers earlier than previously intended.

　　Should Star Citizen funding reach $27 million, the "Banu Merchantman" ship class will be unlocked. This class is described as "sturdy" and "dedicated."

　　"Thank you for your continued support of and trust in project," Roberts said. "You have empowered the team to make Star Citizen something truly special… the Best Damn Space Sim Ever!"

　　Star Citizen has been in development at Cloud Imperium Games for more than a year. The game itself centers on a storyline that is set in a persistent online universe. Last week, Cloud Imperium Games announced a modding competition for the game.

　　Roberts has said that Star Citizen will fuse elements of his previous games, Wing Commander and Freelancer. Support for the virtual-reality headset Oculus Rift is planned.

　　Star Citizen is expected to be released in late 2014.
