Since the release of Final Fantasy III on the Super NES, Square has had a growing following in the US. When Sony released Final Fantasy VII in September, the fan base for the company's games only increased. Sony is answering the call by releasing several of Square's most popular titles - Final Fantasy Tactics, SaGa Frontier, and Bushido Blade among them.

　　But even with all of these Square titles coming here, fans still want more. When it was announced that Tobal 2 would not be coming to the US, fans went into a frenzy trying to get it released. After seeing the first Tobal's somewhat dismal sales in the US, there wasn't a whole lot of reason to bring the game out.

　　When looking at Xenogears, the reasons for it not being released are a bit vague. It's a Square RPG in a market that, after FFVII, is hungry for new games by the company. The fan backing for the game has increased as its Japanese release gets closer. A petition has now been started up on square.net, an unofficial Square fan page.

　　The only question in all of this is, if there's only a finite number of games that Square will bring to the US, is Xenogears on the top of that list? With Parasite Eve and Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon also gaining on their Japanese release dates, the manpower at Square for translating the game has got to be stretched. If Front Mission Second or Alternative make it to the US, that adds more games to Square's slate.

　　For now, Square fans who want the game can sign the petition on square.net, which is not affiliated with Square USA. Sony Computer Entertainment America told GS News today that it could not comment on the matter as it's Square's decision. At press time, Square could not be reached for comment.
