Square Enix will be moving development on the Final Fantasy VII Remake in-house to control its quality for when the game’s goes into mass production.
So far, development on the highly-anticipated remake has been handled by external developers such as CyberConnect2, but according to various comments from Square Enix’s Naoki Hamaguchi, development will now be handled internally, and he will be taking on the top developmental role for the FFVII remake.
“So far, development (for FFVIIR) has been carried out mainly with the support of external partners. However, in view of factors such as improving quality when the product goes into mass production in the future, the company has decided to shift the developmental system back to within the company, so as to maintain a stable schedule and have control over factors such as quality. We will be forming a robust system within the company to properly carry out the development.”
The Final Fantasy VII remake was officially announced during Sony’s E3 2015 press conference, and Sony released a new trailer for the remake during its PlayStation Experience event later that year.
You can check out that trailer below:
First released in 1997 on the PlayStation computer entertainment system, FINAL FANTASY VII is universally regarded as a hallmark title of the RPG genre. The original title received high praise for its epic storyline, unique characters, and movie sequences that utilized the most cutting-edge technology of the time. Since then, the game has sold over 11 million copies worldwide and continues to receive widespread acclaim from critics and fans around the world. The popular game has even expanded into spin-offs, films, and merchandise.
The game will be a “full remake”, and will be released as a multi-part series for Sony’s PlayStation 4. Hopefully we’ll see more from the game during this year’s E3 event.
