Recently, there has been speculation throughout the industry that SquareSoft may return to developing for a Nintendo platform by announcing support for the GameCube console. It only seems fitting that the Final Fantasy series returns to a Nintendo console in the next-generation. When contacted for comment on the speculation, SquareSoft would neither confirm nor deny the rumors. A Square spokesperson told GameSpot, "Square is currently developing for the PS2. As stated when the Xbox was announced, Square is open to new platforms; we will develop for those platform(s) which we believe will let us create games that meet our expectations. The introduction of the new platform (GameCube) enlivens the videogame industry, which we believe is a very good thing."
GameSpot will bring you official confirmation if and when Square makes an announcement on GameCube support.
