Sam Fisher may be sneaking onto the silver screen. Hollywood news site Deadline reports that Ubisoft is in talks with Warner Bros. and Paramount Pictures to make a movie out of the Splinter Cell franchise. According to the site, Paramount is the frontrunner for the project. A Splinter Cell movie is sneaking up on Hollywood, it appears.
It is not clear if the Splinter Cell film would follow a past game, or tell a story all its own. Other details, like potential cast members or a director for the project, were not specified. As of press time, Ubisoft had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.
Gamers eager to soak in a Splinter Cell movie may want to temper their excitement, as the recent success rate for game-based movies is less than stellar. Feature films based on the Uncharted, Gears of War, and BioShock franchises have all hit snags and are each indefinitely on hold.
Though a Splinter Cell movie may be far off, a new entry in the game series is due out next year. Splinter Cell: Blacklist was announced during the 2012 Electronic Entertainment Expo last week. This game is due out during spring 2013 for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 with Kinect support.
