Splatoon 2's First Splatfest In Nearly A Year Starts Today
Splatoon 2's First Splatfest In Nearly A Year Starts Today-September 2024
Sep 21, 2024 4:39 PM

Nintendo is holding Splatoon 2's first Splatfest event in nearly a year this weekend. The competition kicks off at 3 PM PT / 6 PM ET on May 22 and runs until the same time on May 24.

This one-off event is a repeat of the game's first Splatfest, which was a battle of the condiments pitting mayo against ketchup. Team Mayo emerged victorious the first time around, making this weekend's event a rare chance to right the injustices of the past.

It’s a #Splatoon2 #Splatfest so contentious we have to do it twice! #TeamMayo and #TeamKetchup are back and it’s up to you to determine which sauce is the boss!

To join the Splatfest, you'll first need to pick a side from the terminal in Inkopolis Square. After you've joined a team, jump into Turf War matches during the event hours and try to rack up wins for your side. The winning team will be determined by popularity and win percentage.

Every player who participates in the Splatfest will receive Super Sea Snails, which can be used to add a new ability slot to a piece of gear. Everyone will also receive a Splatfest Tee. This is returned after the Splatfest ends, but you can scrub it prior to that for only 2,000 coins, letting you keep any ability chunks you earned during the event.

This marks the first Splatfest in Splatoon 2 since July 2019's Splatocalypse, which pit Order against Chaos to determine the fate of Inkopolis. Nintendo had previously said that event was the game's final Splatfest. It's unclear if Nintendo will continue to support Splatoon 2 after this weekend's one-off event, but the game recently crossed 10 million copies sold, making it one of the Switch's biggest successes.
