Not much has been made of the 3DS's augmented-reality features beyond what Nintendo packed into the handheld's box. Nintendo will take a step toward rectifying that matter on April 13, announcing today that it will deliver Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir on that date for the 3DS.
The presence of creepy children is a time-honored gaming tradition. As its name suggests, The Cursed Memoir falls within the horror genre, and it sees players interacting with a girl named Maya, who comes to life through a 16-page AR Book included in the game. Players will see Maya in their own surroundings by way of the 3DS's cameras, and they'll be tasked with breaking the curse that has been placed upon her.
The Cursed Memoir will also include ways for players to take pictures of their own environments for use within the game. Nintendo notes that players will be dogged by malevolent spirits around every corner.
The game launched in Japan for the 3DS earlier this month. It is in development at Tecmo Koei by the team behind the Fatal Frame series of survival horror games. As a gauge for the game's spook factor, The Cursed Memoir has been rated T for Teen.
