Following up on yesterday's report on the unique licensing deal between Speed Racer Enterprises and industry marketing firm Games Advertising, GameSpot received word today that the deal could span a wide range of video game platforms. We spoke with John Bodin, VP of Communications at Games Advertising, who feels that, "the Speed Racer license used to develop video game products will hopefully span the entire spectrum. It would be ideal to see a single product done well and ported to both PC and console platforms, including current-generation consoles, as well as the upcoming PS2 and Xbox products."
"I personally tend to favor PC-based games over console-based games, but the next-generation platforms -- starting with the current Dreamcast -- all offer a lot of potential," Mr. Bodin continued. "These highly- advanced gaming/entertainment systems could help elevate video gaming to the next level, possibly to the point where interactive video games could rival television and movies in the entertainment realm, so we definitely do not want to ignore this potential market."
As part of the agreement confirmed yesterday, Game Advertising will license out the Speed Racer franchise to potential game developers and publishers. The company hopes that a game based on the Speed Racer franchise will take advantage of the cars and the unique characters from the cartoon, creating a game with both racing and mission-based gameplay.
