Sony has published their latest financial results for 2015, and according to the report, the company has shipped 4 million PS4 consoles over the past 3 months.

　　The financial report mentions a “significant” sales increase in the Games & Network Services division of which PlayStation is a part. In the 2nd quarter of FY2015, Sony managed to ship 4 million PS4 consoles to retailers. According the report, a total of 29.3 million units have been shipped. Sony predicts it will ship 17.5 million PS4 units, by the end of the financial year. Compared to their previous prediction of 16.5 million units, this is an increase of 1 million units.

　　Please note that the report mentions shipped units. This means the amount of units that have been shipped to retailers, not sold units. This metric can sometimes be confusing, and has been used to give a positive spin on lower sales.

　　The PS4 has been selling extremely well over the past. Sony’s Shu Yoshida called the success of the PS4 “ironic in a sense”.

　　"When the platform’s not doing so well, our games become more prominent, and we get larger market share within the same platform. Because we continue to support the PS3, in the launch year of the PS4 we had The Last of Us and Gran Turismo 6 and Beyond and so on, many games, we were still working hard. We’re just head-down, focused on delivering the games for the near future. We’re happy with how it’s going, and we’re excited about welcoming PlayStation VR. From a delivering games standpoint, we have work to do. People constantly ask us for the big exclusive triple-A games", Yoshida said in an recent interview with Eurogamer.
