TOKYO--Seaman fans, your dreams of taking another dip in the sea's waters may be answered soon. Sony will release a new PS2 action game, featuring a fish, to be developed by Sega Wow. Titled Uo: Nanatsu no Mizu to Densetsu no Nushi (which translates as Fish: The Seven Waters and the Legendary Master), the game will let players assume the role of a fish, experience life underwater in a 3D view, and mingle with sea life that includes frogs, turtles, and other fish. The game's goal is to collect valuable statues from each creature they meet. In doing so, the player's fish must survive underwater perils, seeking new territories, and all the while avoiding danger and keeping control of its limited energy.
One of the special components of the game is the need to eat other creatures to retain stamina and health. Eating can be done through a three-step process of locking on to a target with the L1 button, chasing them with the X button, and eventually eating them with the square button. Larger creatures can eat the player instead, although they can also be eaten if they have been weakened by attacks. Not all enemies come from nature: unexpected fishing lures can pull the player's fish out of the water if it can't break free. If one's fish is strong enough, it can snap the fishing line, and keep it in a collection. Lures that have been collected and creatures that have been eaten can be seen in collections that can be easily viewed by the player.
Uo: Nanatsu no Mizu to Densetsu no Nushi is scheduled for release in Japan the summer. The game's Web site displays an attractive render of the game's main character.
