TOKYO--Konami announced the long-awaited return of a lost classic. The company will release Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, a port of the 1990 game that was never released outside Japan, for Japanese cell phones. Previously, the title was only available for the MSX2 personal computer; the original is very rare. Last month, Konami released a port of the original 1987 MSX2 version of Metal Gear.
The game follows Snakes adventures in a small Middle Eastern country named Zanzibarland. The events of the game were referred to multiple times in the PlayStation game Metal Gear Solid. As with last month's port, series director Hideo Kojima will be supervising the new version of Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. The game will be playable on the FOMA900i series phones from DoCoMo, KDDI's EZweb phones compatible with EZ Appli Phase 3, and Vodafone handsets compatible with V256K. Distribution of Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake will begin in Japan on October 1.
