D3 Publisher has announced that its budget games--known as the "Simple" series--have sold more than 10 million cumulative copies in Japan. Established in 1992, D3 Publisher began selling games in its Simple series, which included basic strategy board games such as chess and mahjong. Eventually D3 went on to produce a variety of unique--yet popular--budget games such as female boxing and street golfing. By lowering development costs, D3 Publisher sells its titles in the 1,000 to 2,000 yen ($8.50 to $17) price range. There are approximately 180 Simple series titles on the market today.
