"Significant and exciting" new content coming to World of Warcraft-November 2024
Nov 21, 2024 6:23 PM

Blizzard Entertainment is currently working on "significant and exciting new content" for World of Warcraft, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick said last night during an earnings call. No specific timetable for the release of the new content was provided, though Kotick made his comments when discussing the company's outlook for 2014.

Also during the call, Blizzard president Mike Morhaime said the company has never had more resources dedicated to creating new World of Warcraft content than it does right now.

"In terms of the content and developing, we have more resources focused on developing content for World of Warcraft than ever before," Morhaime said. "So we expect to continue having a long and happy life."

World of Warcraft currently has 7.6 million subscribers, and is the top subscription-based MMO on the market.

World of Warcraft launched in 2004 and four expansions have been released to date: The Burning Crusade (2007), Wrath of the Lich King (2008), Cataclysm (2010), and Mists of Pandaria (2012).

Blizzard recently trademarked Warlords of Draenor, though it is unclear what Blizzard franchise this may be related to. More details on the future of World of Warcraft may be unveiled at BlizzCon 2013, which begins tomorrow and runs through Sunday.

GameSpot will be on-hand at the event. Check back later for more.
