The popularity of League of Legends, and esports in general, is convincing enough as it is. If you're in it for the money, however, Riot Games' seemingly unstoppable behemoth is where you'll want to stake your claim. More money was made playing League than any other esport last year. Just how much did teams make?

Try over $5 million dollars across 98 tournaments.

Data released on progamingtours.net breaks it down specifically to $5,270,955 paid out. The top three earning teams were SK Telecom T1 ($1,095,083), Royal Club ($282,985), and Fnatic ($264,500). The only North American team to break the top 10 was Cloud 9 at $136,000.

Valve's DOTA 2 came in second, paying out out $4,435,421 in prize money, and StarCraft 2 was third at $3,027,010.
