David had Goliath, Jack (of Beanstalk fame) had the Giant, and Odysseus had the Cyclops. Now PlayStation 2 owners have their own enormous foes to tangle with thanks to today's release of Shadow of the Colossus. The game comes from Sony Computer Entertainment Japan, the same team that developed 2001's ICO, which is apparent in this new game's style.

　　The game's hero is a young boy who would do anything to revive his fallen love, including taking on 16 beasts with the capability to flatten him with their fists. The gigantic colossi hold the key to resurrection, and the hero must travel across the picturesque land to defeat them all to bring back his babe.

　　The realm can be traversed either on horseback or on foot, and the hero comes strapped with a magical sword and a trusty bow. It's not just a simple case of slicing through some Achilles' tendons of the big bullies--gamers will have to use their noggins to solve puzzles and figure out how to topple each behemoth.
