Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced that it will sell PlayStation 2 hardware, software, and accessories through its online presence, playstation-europe.com. Chris Deering, head of SCEE, told the British trade paper MCV that the company will open an e-commerce section on its site sometime around the launch of its European preorder campaign, which is set to begin on September 7.
However, Deering was quick to point out that Sony's online store should not be seen as a threat to third-party retailers. "Sony in Japan wants to move with the times and give an option for people to access PlayStation 2 via the web," said Deering. "But we're not looking to turn the world upside down. We will always have huge respect for our retail partners."
The PlayStation 2 will launch on October 26 in Europe.
