Sony's marketing campaign for the PlayStation 3 has been characterized over the years by severe misses and fabulous hits. Now, the man who has led Sony America's marketing efforts for the PS3 will be exiting the building, as Industry Gamers reports today that Peter Dille has resigned his position as senior VP of marketing.

　　Peter Dille on the mic. "I can confirm Peter Dille left SCEA. Peter has been a dedicated and valued member of the PlayStation team for more than five years, leading the North American marketing efforts since PlayStation 3 launched in 2006, as well as helping establish the PlayStation Network as a comprehensive entertainment solution in this territory," an SCEA representative said.

　　"The leadership of our marketing effort is a key to the continued growth of the PlayStation brand, and the deep bench of executives and marketing team at SCEA will continue to drive the marketing function in North America until we establish a replacement. We wish Peter well in his future endeavors," the rep continued.

　　Sony did not offer a timeline for Dille's departure, nor did it say where the executive was moving on to. Dille rejoined SCEA as its chief marketer in April 2006, having previously been part of the original PlayStation's launch team. The executive also headed up THQ's marketing efforts during the early 2000s.
