October is the month when film studios often release their biggest horror movies, and this year one of the most iconic horror franchises of all time returns. Halloween is a direct sequel to John Carpenter's classic 1978 slasher movie of the same name and it hits theaters on October 19. A new trailer has now been released.
The latest trailer opens with masked killer Michael Myers back on the street of Hannonfield on Halloween night, having escaped while being transferred between prisons. We see him walking amongst trick-or-treating kids, before entering a house to commit gruesome murder. Jamie Lee Curtis provides a voiceover as Laurie Strode, the character she played in the original movie, explaining that she has waited 40 years for Michael to escape so she can finally kill him. Now Playing: Halloween - Official Trailer #2
Halloween is directed by acclaimed indie director David Gordon Green (George Washington, Pineapple Express), with a script co-written by comedian and actor Danny McBride (Eastbound and Down, Alien Covenant). Carpenter is involved as a story advisor and has composed the movie's score. Check out the previous trailer here.
In a recent interview with Collider, Curtis spoke about returning to the role which made her a star, and how Laurie Strode would differ in the new movie. "Laurie isn't a badass, she's smart and she survived," she said. "In this movie, I also don't want her to be a badass, I want her to be prepared. I want her to still be who she is but prepared, because she's not Linda Hamilton, I don't have those arms."
"She was strong because she was smart, education I think gives you strength, it's not muscles, it's brains," she continued. "Brainpower is the strongest message, so I've tried not to become some badass bitch because I don't think that's correct. It's tricky because we've turned strong women into superhero women and that isn't what makes a woman strong, we're not talking about physical strength, we're talking about intelligence and wile and all the beautiful things that make a smart woman so dynamic."
