Rewind: Week in Review
Rewind: Week in Review-September 2024
Sep 20, 2024 8:21 AM

Console news this week was mostly about what's to come in the future. And by the looks of things, the crystal ball looks mighty sweet for gamers.

A few sketchy details of Sonic Adventure's online capabilities were revealed by Sega. The game's release is eminent, so we'll know everything in just about a week.

VM Labs' NUON technology picked up a supporter in the form of Adrenalin Interactive. The game developer said it would develop games for the new technology – which should make the console playing field that much more interesting.

And speaking of console competition, Sega of Japan launched a TV ad campaign poking fun at its own inadequacies (now that's fertile ground!). And Square said gamers should prepare themselves for the PlayStation port of Final Fantasy VI. The title is a prequel for Final Fantasy VII and was called Final Fantasy III in the States. Final Fantasy fans, are you happy now?

And finally, Game Boy Color titles are appearing with greater frequency at retailers. The platform life has been extended successfully by Nintendo again and again. This latest permutation of Game Boy seems to have accepted by consumers – and now gamers are getting the titles necessary to support their addiction.

Here are the week's top stories.
