Resident Evil 7 Shipped 3.5 Million Units, Below Expectations; Dead Rising 4, Monster Hunter XX Underperformed As Well-October 2024

Resident Evil 7, the latest entry in the series developed by Capcom, represents a glorious comeback for the survival horror series, and the game has been selling pretty well in all regions. Despite good sales, the game has performed below Capcom's expectations.

Today, the Japanese publisher confirmed that Resident Evil 7 shipped 3.5 million units, 500k units below expectations. The survival horror game isn't the only recently released Capcom game that has underperformed, with Dead Rising 4 selling less than a million units. Monster Hunter XX did manage to sell 1.7 million units, but it still underperformed, as Capcom expected to sell 2 million units. Considering the game has yet to release West, this isn't exactly a failure.

Even with the game underperforming, Capcom is still planning to expand Resident Evil 7 with new content. Earlier this week, Producer Masachika Kawata and Director Koshi Nakanishi confirmed that more content is on the way, while the Not a Hero DLC, starring Chris Redfield, has been delayed to ensure a high level of quality. The Not a Hero DLC will release for free.

Dead Rising 4, on the other hand, doesn't seem like it will receive the same amount of love as the survival horror game, despite being a more than competent game. In our review of the game, we noted how the game still manages to be fun despite some streamlining of the series' core elements, which didn't sit well with most long time fans of Frank West.
