At Apple Expo in France today, Apple Computer announced that the ATI Radeon video card is now available as a build-to-order option for its G4 desktop computers. This announcement comes almost two months after Apple pulled plans to introduce the card into its lineup at MacWorld Expo New York. For an extra US$100, you can now add the 32MB Radeon card to a Power Mac G4 or Power Mac G4 Cube purchased from Apple's online store. The Radeon replaces ATI's previous-generation offering, the 16MB Rage 128 Pro, which is the standard 3D card in Apple desktops.
Related news on the Mac hardware news front came today when 3dfx announced that it will ship an AGP version of the Voodoo5 5500 for the Macintosh in October. The PCI version of the Voodoo5 5500 has been the only current-generation 3D option for Mac users to date, and 3dfx claims it has sold quite well.
