While there's a lot of new technology within the PlayStation 5, at its core it's still a familiar gaming experience that has been refined over the years. Trophies, which have been around since the PlayStation 3 days, will be back for the PS5 but with a new twist on how they're recorded. Quite literally actually.

　　Kinda Funny's Greg Miller detailed how Sony's achievement system will function on the PS5 during a preview of Astro's Playroom. According to his preview, the PS5 now captures a short video of your in-game efforts when you unlock a Trophy.

　　This is a big change compared to how the PlayStation 4 kept a record of your Trophy unlocks. That console would automatically grab a screenshot when a Trophy was earned, but unless you were recording footage yourself, video proof of your achievements wasn't an automatic function on the current-gen console. It’s unclear presently if this feature will be applied to those games which blocked the use of the PS4 Share functions and sometimes resulted in trophy screenshots not being automatically captured.

　　The PlayStation Trophy system also received a few other changes before the launch of the PS5 in November, increasing the level rating from 1-100 to 1-999. The structure and ranking of your existing Trophies will be automatically placed into these new tiers, in an effort to make the hunt for these rewards more exciting according to Sony.
