The PlayStation 4, the "most powerful video game console ever created" according to Sony, is now available in 48 countries around the world, following the system's launch in 16 new markets today.
As of today, the PS4 is also available in the Czech Republic, Greece, Slovakia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, and South Africa. The PS4 also goes on sale today in Bolivia, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
The system will be released in even more countries later this year and into early 2014. "If you're still waiting, thank you so much for your patience, we are doing our upmost to ensure availability in your region as soon as possible," Sony said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the Xbox One is available in 13 markets around the world. Despite the availability discrepancy, the PS4 and Xbox One are in a dead heat in terms of worldwide sales with 2 million each.
A report this week suggested that gamers in the Xbox One's delayed regions would need to wait until the end of 2014 for the system to arrive, but Microsoft is not confirming or denying this claim.
