　　NPD released their monthly sales data today, and for the third month in a row, the PlayStation 4 has come out on top.

　　In a press release, the NPD wrote, "PS4 and Xbox One continue to see success with cumulative sales of the two consoles through the first five month currently totaling more than double that of their predecessors, the PS3 and Xbox 360."

　　But the more interesting fact is that: "In March 2014, Sony’s PS4 led hardware sales for the third month in a row."

　　That's an especially surprising statistic since the Xbox One/PC exclusive Titanfall was the top-selling game in the US for March. Overall, the Xbox One sold 311,000 units, and the Xbox 360 sold 111,000. But Sony recently announced, that they had sold 7 million consoles worldwide.

　　Microsoft's corporate VP of marketing, strategy, and Business for Xbox, Yusuf Mehdi, wrote in a press release, "We’re also happy to share today that more than 5 million Xbox One consoles have been sold-in to retailers since our launch. The new generation is off to a strong start, with global Xbox One sales outpacing Xbox 360 by more than 60 percent at the same point in time, a true testament to your love of console gaming."

　　Mehdi also notes, "With Xbox One and Xbox 360 combined, the Xbox platform sold the most games across all console platforms with 4.1 million games sold."

　　Overall, the industry is doing well with a 3% rise year on year, which the NPD attributes to "strong growth of hardware sales (up 78 percent) and modest growth in the accessory category (up 4 percent)."

　　The NPD writes, "As seen in the past few months, hardware sales for March 2014 saw strong growth over March 2013, up 78 percent. Sales increases were driven completely by consoles sales, which were up over 100 percent, due mainly to continued success from the PS4 and Xbox One."
