Here's an interesting way to announce a game. Tropico publisher Kalypso Media today announced that it will publish Crookz, a tactical strategy game with a 1970s vibe, and enlisted porn icon Ron Jeremy to appear in its announcement trailer.
Developed by Skilltree Studios, Crookz focuses on a band of "fun-loving misfits" who plot high-risk heists and robberies in an effort to get rich. It's set in the 1970s, a time when flared-jeans and funk music was all the rage.
In the live-action trailer, which has surprisingly high production values, the salacious Jeremy is the one getting robbed. The target? A gold statue in the man's mansion.
In Crookz, every member of the game has a different skill set (like NPCs in Grand Theft Auto V's heists), so players will need to tactically work together to pull off their missions. Here is how Kalypso sets up the story.
"A lucrative museum heist in Venice involving a famous jewel known as 'The Green Tiger’'ends in betrayal and the team broken apart. Five years later the remaining gang members reunite with a plot for revenge against their traitorous former comrade--but naturally, their plan will also make them rich beyond their wildest dreams…"
Crookz will offer up 20 missions in all, customizable characters, tools like camera jamers and explosive charges, and a challenge mode that allows players to create heists and share them with others.
Kalypso has not released a gameplay video for Crookz yet, but a handful of screenshots on its website show off what it will look like. Crookz will be on display at Gamescom next week in Germany before its release for PC, Mac, and Linux in 2015.
