Pokemon Go Adding New Mythical Pokemon, But It Will Be Hard To Get-October 2024
Oct 19, 2024 1:19 AM

Pokemon Go players will soon have their first chance to add another rare Pokemon to their collection, but this one may be harder to catch than most. The Mythical Deoxys from Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire versions is set to debut in the popular mobile game, but just as Mewtwo before it, it will only be available through EX Raids.

Unlike standard Raid Battles, EX Raids are an exclusive type of battle that you can only participate in if you received an invitation. In order to qualify for an invite, you will need to have recently won a Raid Battle at a "qualifying" Gym. If you do manage to get your hands on one, you'll now be able to extend the invitation to one of your Ultra or Best Friends.

Now Playing: Pokemon Go: Mewtwo Now Available In Standard Raid Battles And More - GS News Update

Pokemon Go developer Niantic says Deoxys will begin appearing in the game "with the next cycle of EX Raid invitations." Gyms that can host EX Raids will now be marked with a new tag when you look at its details, allowing you to more easily identify which locations you'll be able to find Deoxys.

Deoxys is a powerful Psychic-type Pokemon, so if you do get an invite to an EX Raid, you'll want to bring strong Dark-types such as Tyranitar to combat it. In the mainline series, Deoxys is able to assume multiple forms, each of which alters its appearance and amplifies certain stats, but it will appear in its Normal form when it debuts in Pokemon Go. It's unclear how Niantic will introduce Deoxys' other forms in the mobile game.

The Gen 1 Legendary Mewtwo was originally also only available through EX Raids, but it has now made its first appearance in standard Raid Battles as part of the Ultra Bonus Event. You'll be able to encounter the Legendary Psychic-type at Gyms until October 23, so you won't want to miss your chance to add it to your collection while you can.
