During a presentation at the Game Developers Conference today, Sony finally cleared up two major lingering questions about the PlayStation VR headset: its price and release date.

The company confirmed that the PlayStation 4-powered device will cost $400 and will arrive in October 2016. That's a delay, as the device was originally scheduled to come to market in the first half of 2016. The delay is not a surprise, however.

By comparison, Oculus Rift goes on sale later this month for $600, while HTC Vive arrives in April for $800. The major difference for PlayStation VR, however, is that it does not require a PC, as it runs on PS4. Any of the nearly 36 million PS4 consoles out there today can power the device.

Overseas, PlayStation VR will cost €399 in Europe, £349 in the United Kingdom, $549.95 in Australia, and ¥44,980 in Japan. Previously, Sony said the headset would be priced like a new gaming platform; the PS4 starts at $350.

One important thing to note regarding pricing is that PlayStation VR does not come with Move controllers or the PlayStation Camera, which are required for some games. You do get a Wii-sized processor unit and a series of cables, including HDMI and USB, among others. The image above showcases everything featured in the PlayStation VR launch bundle.

Also during the presentation, PlayStation president Andrew House confirmed that there are more than 230 developers building content for PlayStation VR right now. This includes smaller teams and bigger studios, and altogether, there are more than 160 games currently in development for PlayStation VR.

More than 50 of them will launch before the end of 2016, including:

Eagle Flight (Ubisoft)Eve: Valkyrie (CCP Games)Headmaster (Frame Interactive)Rez Infinite (Enhance Games)Wayward Sky (Uber Entertainment)Rigs: Mechanized Combat League (Sony WWS)Tumble VR (Sony WWS)Until Dawn: Rush of Blood (Sony WWS)PlayStation VR Worlds (Sony WWS)Additionally, all PlayStation VR owners can download a free app called The Playroom when the device arrives in October.

Sony also showcased the final consumer edition of the PlayStation VR headset and confirmed it will offer a "Cinematic" mode, which, according to Sony, "lets users enjoy a variety of content in a large virtual screen while wearing the headset."

Regular, non-VR PS4 games will support Cinematic mode, as well as videos. PS4 features and apps such as Share Play and "Live from PlayStation" will also use Cinematic mode. Additionally, PlayStation VR lets you look at 360-degree photos and videos.

Important: PSVR doesn't come with any controllers. Or camera. You'll need those. Hmm. pic.twitter.com/Li1yG0LKk6
