Currently scheduled for release in June, Perimeter is an innovative futuristic real-time strategy game in which the environments play as big of a part in the gameplay as the units do under your command. The game is set far into the future at a time when the Earth is dying and humans have been forced to take to the stars in gigantic floating cities, known as frames, in search of a new planet to call their own.
When attempting to colonize any of the planets in the game, you'll face opposition not only from indigenous creatures but also from rival human factions. One of the many features in Perimeter that distinguishes it from other games in the genre is the nature of its units. All of the units in the game are made using nanotechnology and, as such, are able to morph into different forms on command. For example, a single unit en route to an enemy base could adopt a flying form to clear a chasm, morph into a subterranean unit to get underneath the enemy's perimeter shield, and then change into a combat unit before attacking the base.
The most significant new feature in Perimeter will be your ability to transform the terrain using terraforming drones. You'll have to flatten areas of terrain any time that you wish to place a new structure or extract energy from beneath the planet's surface; you'll also be able to shape the terrain so that it gives you an advantage in combat. You might, for example, create a series of trenches to slow down any land-based enemies en route to your base, or you could flatten any hills overlooking your base so that your enemy has no obvious vantage point from which to attack you. The impenetrable perimeter shield around your base, from which the game gets it name, is also an intriguing feature; although, it's worth noting that the shield will only be effective for as long as your energy reserves allow.
Perimeter will feature a total of 27 campaign missions, 30 single-player maps, 8 multiplayer maps, 24 different structure types, and 30 different morphable units to be researched. The game is currently scheduled for release in June.
