Ouya to support OnLive streaming game service
Ouya to support OnLive streaming game service-October 2024
Oct 16, 2024 7:26 AM

Ouya will dip its toes in OnLive's streaming game services, the console's designers announced today. The system will support OnLive and its library of current-generation streamable games at launch, currently slated for March 2013.

Looks a little…boomerang-y. The OnLive service will function as it does through home computers or the OnLive Game System, allowing users to take games and saves from one platform to another. Ouya, which raised more than $1 million in the first day of the $99 console's Kickstarter campaign, also revealed a full mock-up of its controller, which resembles a slightly wider, flatter Xbox 360 controller.

The Kickstarter campaign has raised more than $5.6 million as of this publication, with 12 days remaining. While its stated goal to provide a relatively inexpensive, open, Android-based platform for indie and large-scale games alike resonated with many gamers, Ouya has received some criticism for its aggressive timetable and potentially misleading statements. GameSpot requested comment from OnLive about what the service's appearance on Ouya means for the future of its own game system, which shares the $99 price point, but had not received a response as of publication time.
