Orchid Makes Music-October 2024
Oct 23, 2024 6:35 PM

Orchid Technologies is getting on the Aureal bandwagon. In a statement originating from the CeBit show in Hannover, Germany, the company said it will ship a three-positional sound card, named NuSound3D, to Europe in March and to the US in April. The board will sell for US$69.00.

The NuSound3D audio board is powered by Aureal's Vortex AU8820. The audio board allows gamers more audio streams than in an average stereo system, 64 voice wavetable synthesis, and over 300 audio MIPS for processing all through the PCI bus of your PC. This technology frees your CPU from dealing with sound and allows the CPU to deal more with processing the game at hand.

Aureal calls the technology A3D Interactive and it has already added 3D sound realism to many titles. Bundled games with the NuSound3D include LucasArts' Jedi Knight: Ambush at Altyr 5 and an A3D version of Psygnosis' Shipwreckers.

The technology delivers 3D sound through two speakers or headphones.

  The NuSound3D is Orchid's follow-up to its Righteous3D and upcoming Righteous3D II 3Dfx-based 3D accelerator.
