Nyko at CES 2008
Nyko at CES 2008-April 2024
Apr 15, 2025 12:04 AM

We dropped by the Nyko suite at the Hilton to take a look at the peripheral manufacturer's product line-up for 2008. The company is showing accessories for all of the major gaming platforms, but a few of the Wii and PlayStation 3 accessories immediately caught our attention.

We had a chance to get hands-on with the Wireless Nunchuck that Nyko first announced late last year. The Nyko Nunchuck has the same functionality as the Nintendo Nunchuk, but the Nyko version is wireless and has its own power button and blue LED power indicator light. The accessory also comes with a wrist-strap to reduce flight risk.

The Wireless Nunchuck comes with a wireless transmitter that attaches to the bottom of the Wiimote. The transmitter doesn't add a noticeable amount of weight and works with other controller accessories that have the nunchuk port. Nyko had the transmitter inserted in its Perfect Shot gun peripheral, and the wireless duo worked well in our brief zombie-hunting excursion.

Sony finally brought rumble to the PlayStation 3 with the new Dual Shock 3 controller. Sony released the controller in Japan last November, but the pad won't reach North America until sometime this spring. Nyko has jumped in to fill the rumble-less void with its very own Zero Wireless controller. The Zero features full PlayStation 3 game pad functionality along with six-axis and rumble support. The controller will be available later this month in black, white, and silver.

PlayStation 3 owners facing guitar compatibility issues will be interested in Nyko's new Front Man Wireless Guitar. The guitar is compatible with both Rock Band and Guitar Hero III. Other important features include a classic "clicky" strum bar and interchangeable face plates. It's nice to know that we have a new Rock Bandband guitar option if Activision and Harmonix aren't able to work out their differences on the PS3 platform.
