Nintendo Will Keep The Same Account System On Next Console For Ease Of Use, Apparently-December 2024

Your Nintendo Account is apparently here to stay. Unlike the transition from 3DS and Wii U to Switch, the company reportedly plans to carry over the same user system to the next generation of hardware.

Spotted by IGN, Twitter user Genki_JPN translated an answer from Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa at a shareholder meeting last week. "As for the transition from Nintendo Switch to the next-generation machine, we want to do as much as possible in order to smoothly transition our customers, while utilizing the Nintendo Account," Furukawa reportedly said. It's important to keep in mind that Nintendo will release an official translation of the question-and-answer session in the coming days.

The Nintendo Account system originated before the launch of Miitomo on smartphones and became the user account for Switch upon the system's launch in 2017. Previously, 3DS and Wii U featured a Nintendo Network ID system.

In general, Nintendo has kept quiet about a Switch successor, though it will aim to "surprise and delight," according to Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser. One other key transition point for Switch owners will be seeing what sort of backward compatibility the next system supports.

The account system talk wasn't the only noteworthy aspect of the shareholder meeting. A Splatoon 3 player allegedly paid $3,500 to rant about the game to Furukawa. The person bought stock specifically to attend the event and complain about the lack of boy Inkling customization options compared to their female counterparts in the game.
