Nintendo announced in Tokyo today that the GameCube will launch in Europe in spring 2002. Nintendo would only be as specific as April or May concerning the European launch of its new console, but it said to expect more-specific announcements next month. Additionally, the Japanese publication Asahi Shimbun reported today that Nintendo intends to have 300,000 consoles ready for the launch in that territory. Shares of Nintendo have risen 63.4 percent since the September launch of the GameCube in Japan. Initial earnings reports from Nintendo have indicated an increase in profits of 14.4 percent over the previous six months.
