Nintendo Switch's Mario Tennis Aces Adds Final Free DLC Character
Nintendo Switch's Mario Tennis Aces Adds Final Free DLC Character-October 2024
Oct 18, 2024 12:28 AM

Since its release on Switch last June, Mario Tennis Aces has been receiving a steady stream of new playable characters and other updates, and now the final addition to the game's roster has arrived. Dry Bowser, the skeletal version of the Koopa king, is available in the game, as are new costumes for Wario and Waluigi.

Dry Bowser is a defensive-class character and shares many similarities with his living counterpart. Everyone who participates in at least one match in the game's Online Tournament mode this month will unlock Dry Bowser immediately, while all other players will receive the character after August 1. You can take a look at him in action in the trailer below.

Now Playing: Nintendo Exclusives Confirmed For 2019

Dry Bowser isn't the only incentive to play online this month. If you manage to rack up enough points in the Online Tournament, you'll unlock Wario and Waluigi's classic overalls as alternate costumes. If you didn't take part in the Online Tournament last month, you'll also now have access to the game's previous new character, Fire Piranha Plant.

With the arrival of Dry Bowser, there are now 30 playable characters in Mario Tennis Aces, nearly double the size of the game's roster at launch. While many of these are returning from previous Mario Tennis games, Aces also introduced a number of characters who had never appeared in the series, including Chain Chomp, Boom Boom, Pauline, and Kamek.

Mario Tennis Aces is available exclusively for Nintendo Switch. GameSpot awarded it a 7/10 in our Mario Tennis Aces review. Critic Justin Clark wrote, "The Tetris Effect is in full swing here; days after the credits rolled, I still crave the satisfying thwack from a Power Shot, mentally replay matches and imagine how I might do things differently given a bit more focus and know-how. Mario Tennis Aces does what this series has done best, and for the most part, improves what it's rarely gotten right prior."
