Nintendo Plans To Sell Over 20 Million Switch Units in FY 2018
Nintendo Plans To Sell Over 20 Million Switch Units in FY 2018-October 2024

In an interview published by the Kyoto Shimbun daily newspaper, Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima expressed the company's desire to try and sell over 20 million units of the Switch console in the fiscal year 2018.

While the official forecast for this fiscal year is still targeting 14 million units (though Nintendo will probably exceed it, considering that they have already sold 10 million Switch units), the company is more bullish for next year.

According to Kimishima, so far the momentum has exceeded expectations and Nintendo intends to accelerate it even further by launching software that "enables new ways of playing". This seems like an obvious nod to the hybrid nature of the Switch which is clearly the hit feature among gamers.

Being able to seamlessly switch (pun fully intended) between home and portable console has proven to be extremely popular and Nintendo seems intent to double down on this particular point for its future titles. We'll have to see whether they will be able to maintain the same astounding output they've had in 2017, though, with the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS and Splatoon 2 unlikely to be matched by a similar wave of exclusives in 2018.
