The wireless Web-surfing ability of Sony's PlayStation Portable is one of its biggest selling points. This week, the handheld's Internet search function will be simplified, courtesy of an addition to its XrossMediaBar (XMB) which will eliminate a step.
This morning, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) announced that it will release the newest PSP firmware update in the US and Canada this week. The upgrade, version 4.0 will embed a link to Google's search engine directly into the XMB under an all-new "Internet Search"icon. The new option, which will have an 20-entry input history, will offer the same results pages had a user looked up Google in the PSP's Web browser.
SCEA did not reveal what other functionalities the 4.0 firmware upgrade would add, nor did it say precisely when it would be released this week. When it does arrive, details will be available on the official PSP system update Web site.
