LOS ANGELES--Nintendo wasted no time trotting out Mario as part of its 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference. Leading off its show, the publisher announced New Super Mario Bros for the Wii, a game that Nintendo vice president of sales and marketing Cammie Dunaway described as bringing the Mario franchise to "the fourth dimension."
Hey look, more Mario! As demoed during Nintendo's press conference by Treehouse head Bill Trinnen, New Super Mario Bros for the Wii features play for up to four players, with a heavy emphasis on co-op. In the demo, the four in question were Mario, Luigi, Blue Toad, and Yellow Toad. Activities demonstrated included the ability to pick up other players to solve environmental puzzles, with players also competing to secure the most number of coins.
New Super Mario Bros for the Wii is expected to arrive for Nintendo's console this holiday season. According to Trinnen, the game will be available for play at E3, so check back later for GameSpot's full impressions of the new game.
