The upcoming Super Smash Bros. game for Wii U and 3DS will feature an all-new stage based on the Super Mario Galaxy series, game director Masahiro Sakurai has confirmed.
Writing on Miiverse, Sakurai shared an image of the stage. He also explained that the level's unique gravity-based attributes will mandate the use of new fighting tactics.
"Pic of the day. A new stage, Mario Galaxy!! The pull of gravity emanates from the center of the planet, so this will require using brand-new tactics," Sakurai said.
The new Super Smash Bros. game for Wii U and 3DS will be released in 2014, though Nintendo has not announced a specific release date yet. Cross-platform play between the two versions is not supported.
On the subject of the Super Mario Galaxy series, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto said this week that Nintendo has not ruled out returning to the platforming series.
