Now Playing: Best Shows And Movies To Stream For June 2020 - Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu, Disney+, Shudder
On July 9, Netflix debuted an anime movie. Titled Japan Sinks: 2020, Devilman Crybaby director Masaaki Yuasa is adapting the classic Japanese disaster novel. The story follows a family trying to survive a natural disaster, as an earthquake destroys the county. Japan Sinks: 2020 is a 10-part series with animation from Science Saru, and every part dropped on the same day.
If you're in the mood for horror, then you'll probably want to check out Ju-On: Origins, which arrived on July 3. While the Ju-On movie series--which was also remade in the US as The Grudge--has been terrifying audiences for almost two decades, the Netflix version is actually a series. It will follow a paranormal researcher who becomes obsessed with the haunted home that the Ju-On movies are based on, adding a whole new layer to this franchise. You can learn how it connects to the other Grudge movies, as well.
Finally, there's the Charlize Theron action movie The Old Guard. Based on a comic book of the same name, the film follows a group of immortal mercenaries who defeat evil in the world. Now, someone is targeting them, trying to figure out a way to take their powers from them in order to monetize these amazing abilities. It's one of the best films from Theron in years, with terrific action and excellent world-building. The script was, in fact, written by the comic's creator Greg Rucka.
