Nintendo has just announced a new Nintendo Switch model with longer battery life, which will become available starting mid August.
Following the announcement of the Switch Lite last week, Nintendo has now confirmed the arrival of the ‘New’ Switch model. We already covered this new Switch model last week, and as expected, this new model offers a boost in battery life which can likely be attributed due to the new model supporting LPDDR4X DRAM.
According to Nintendo, its new HAC-001(-01) Switch model will become available next month and the increase in battery life is quite substantial. While the battery of the current HAC-001 Switch model lasts for approximately 2.5 to 6.5 hours in portable mode, the new model’s battery can last up to 9 hours on a single charge. Nintendo writes that battery in the ‘New’ Switch model will last approximately 5.5 hours for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – the old model’s battery will only last roughly 3 hours while playing Breath of the Wild in portable mode, an increase in battery life of approximately 83%.
Further details about the Nintendo Switch model haven’t been shared and we’ve yet to discover whether this new model will also pack minor performance gains due to the possibility of the GPU being clocked higher. It’s possible that the new Switch will also offer more internal storage space.
As always, we’ll keep you updated.
