The classic horror novel The Haunting of Hill House has already been adapted twice for the screen, and now a new Netflix series based on the book is on the way. The show hits the streaming service next month, and the first trailer has just been released.
The trailer sets up the basic plot, which centers around a group of siblings who grew up in the haunted mansion of the title and must return to confront their fears. The promo opens in the past, with two young sisters telling their mom about a horrific dream, before showing us plenty of creepy-looking scenes as the adults go back to their old home. It looks like it could be a seriously scary ride--check the trailer out above.

Now Playing: The Haunting Of Hill House - Official Trailer
The Haunting of Hill House is directed by Mike Flanagan, who also made last year's Stephen King adaptation Gerald's Game for Netflix, as well as horror hits such as Oculus and Hush. It stars Carla Gugino (Sin City, Gerald's Game), Michiel Huisman (Orphan Black), Henry Thomas (E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial), Kate Siegel (Hush), and Timothy Hutton (All the Money in the World). It hits Netflix in its entirety on October 12.
The previous versions of Shirley Jackson's novel were the classic The Haunting from 1963, and the much-derided movie of the same title that was released in 1999. Both of these movies were faithful to the book, but in an interview with Digital Spy last year, Flanagan revealed that his series would be a looser adaptation. "It doesn't span a 10-hour season of television," he said about the novel. "We had to make some changes to make it fit, but I think they're all in the spirit of what she was doing, and I think fans of the book will be very excited."
