New Naughty Dog game title confirmed?-September 2024

What we heard: When Sony announced Naughty Dog's debut PlayStation 3 game at last year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, it did so with a handful of screens and a minute-long teaser trailer. The video featured the game's protagonist climbing, jumping, and swinging around a lush tropical paradise while fending off a slew of well-armed opponents with a pistol, shotgun, and good old-fashioned kicks and punches.

While the trailer gave gamers an idea of the titles Indiana Jones-style gameplay, it didn't actually give them anything to call it. An article on Play France might fill that void today. The gaming site reports that a Naughty Dog developer posted the game's new screenshots and a logo (pictured) bearing the Allan Quartermain-esque title "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" in a portfolio hosted on his personal blog.

Though the resume and portfolio links on the blog no longer work, the new screens the site claims to have pulled from the blog seem to show off the developer's personal expertise. The screenshots are all of the game's lush environments, and the developer in question was listed on Naughty Dog's Web site as a background modeler.

Today's screenshot leak is not the first time the title Uncharted: Drake's Fortune has been associated with the Naughty Dog project. Last week, a poster on the NeoGAF forums discovered a Sony trademark application for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, and speculated that it was the name of Naughty Dog's game. The reasoning was that the game trailer mentioned a lost treasure, and the "Drake's Fortune" subtitle could be a reference to Sir Francis Drake, an English admiral who abandoned a treasure of silver in the Caribbean. However, there was no direct link between the name and Naughty Dog's project, something the Play France report seems to provide.

The official story: "We do not comment on rumors or speculation. No official announcement has been made."--A Sony spokesperson.

Bogus or not bogus?: Almost certainly not bogus.
