New Indiana Jones Clip From CinemaCon Shows Off Bonkers Chase Sequence
New Indiana Jones Clip From CinemaCon Shows Off Bonkers Chase Sequence-September 2024
Sep 20, 2024 6:26 AM

The leisurely Indiana Jones franchise--it took 19 years to get the fourth movie made, and then then another 15 for this new one--is finally reaching the end of its titular hero's story in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. But even though both Indy and Harrison Ford are quite old, that doesn't mean he'll be on the sidelines during the action in the new movie. As CinemaCon attendees saw in an exclusive clip on Wednesday, he's still got some mileage left in the tank.

While the Indiana Jones portion of Disney's CinemaCon presentation didn't include appearances by cast or crew members, the audience might have gotten something better: an actual clip from the movie, and a lengthy action sequence at that.

The clip opened with some nefarious-looking men in pursuit of Indy and Helena (Phoebe Waller-Bridge), who are in Tangiers to find the titular Dial of Destiny, and who don't seem to get along too well. They're actually chasing the main villain, Voller (Mads Mikkelson), who may or may not have the Dial, and are in turn being hunted by Voller's men.

But Indy's driving skills may be waning in his old age--during the chase, he crashes their vehicle down some stairs and into the side of a building. Helena quickly jumps into a new vehicle and takes off, forcing Indy to find his own transport, and the chase continues. But this is an Indiana Jones movie--and Indy never stays in his own vehicle during a car chase.

He ends up back with Helena and her apparent sidekick, Teddy, who's just a kid. Are they channeling Indy and Shortround from Temple of Doom? If Helena is going to be the new Indy, she's certainly acting like it in this scene--her next move in this chase is to leap from her and Indy's vehicle to Voller's, and tries to take him down through the back widshield. The original Indy, meanwhile, pulls his buggy up alongside Voller's and manages to break in through the side door. And that was where the clip ended.

Harrison Ford has said repeatedly that The Dial of Destiny will be his last time out as the fictional archaeologist/adventurer. Meaning that in this film he could potentially pass the torch, and even the Indy nickname, on to Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Helena--she's Indy's goddaughter, so that sets up pretty effectively should that be the path they're taking.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny hits theaters on June 30.
