Netflix Announces A Second Far Cry Anime Series
Netflix Announces A Second Far Cry Anime Series-November 2024
Nov 26, 2024 6:27 PM

Netflix and Ubisoft Film & Television are expanding their relationship, as the streaming service has ordered a Far Cry anime series and also a more mature anime series titled Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix. The announcement was made during Geeked Week, a fan-facing virtual Netflix event revealing first looks at upcoming content.

There's no indication yet whether the newly announced Far Cry anime will be an adaptation of the games or, just like the games, a distinct outing revisiting its enduring themes of overturning unjust power with a people's rebellion.

Captain Laserhawk was previously announced as in development back in 2019, but it didn't have a network or streaming service home until this announcement. Adi Shankar, who is the creator and executive producer of Laserhawk, has described his series as "think Captain N: The Game Masters but good."

The creative teams for these series are still being assembled, but Ubisoft's Hélène Juguet--who will be a producer on them--said that "adult animation is one of the most powerful ways to pay tribute to the culture and community of gaming… it is truly inspiring to… re-imagine our worlds for Netflix."

Things in the Far Cry universe have been heating up steadily, as Far Cry 6 is heading for release on October 7 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Google Stadia. In the upcoming AAA game, you will play as a native of the island nation Yara who joins the rebel forces--eventually facing off against Presidente Anton Castillo, who's played by Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian actor Giancarlo Esposito.

These Far Cry series also join other adaptations from Ubisoft also coming to Netflix, including Assassin's Creed, Skull & Bones, and Beyond Good & Evil.
