2K Games will expand NBA 2K21's WNBA content by giving players a new feature dubbed The W. Exclusively available in next-gen versions, The W adds the WBNA to the MyPlayer experience. Players will be able to build their own WNBA player and plan out her pro career in the professional league.

The W will also include a multiplayer component. Called The W Online, the mode features two teams of three WNBA MyPlayer characters competing against each other.

Now Playing: NBA 2K21 - Next-Gen Gameplay Reveal Trailer

"We're really proud to continue our great partnership with the WNBA and introduce players to The W," stated Visual Concepts senior producer Felicia Steenhouse. "Being able to recognize yourself both on and off the court is incredibly important to us. The W helps us elevate women's basketball and highlights the starpower of the WNBA."

2K Games introduced WNBA for the first time in August 2019. All 12 WBNA teams were added and available in Play Now and Season modes. The company also included animations based on the play styles from well-known WBNA players like Las Vegas Aces forward A'ja Wilson and Seattle Storm center Breanna Stewart.

Los Angeles Sparks forward Candace Parker added, "Creating your own player to take over the league is one of the many reasons why people love to play NBA 2K. I'm so excited to see the 2K team elevate the WNBA experience with The W. This will be a great way to introduce the next generation to women's basketball and showcase our league."

In GameSpot's NBA 2K21 review, Michael Higham rated the current-gen edition a 6/10. "NBA 2K21 shows that the lone basketball sim we have now has largely stagnated," he stated.

NBA 2K21 is out now on PlayStation 4, Stadia, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The next-generation version of NBA 2K21 debuts on November 10 for Xbox Series X/S and November 12 for PlayStation 5. You can check out NBA 2K21's next-gen edition gameplay trailer to get a preview.
